Bushey and Oxhey Methodist Church

Christian Stewardship 2010

An important week in the life of this Church remains our annual Stewardship event which focuses on our giving of money, talents and time for the year ahead.   This enables us to continually meet our financial outgoings and commitment, and importantly to uphold, if  possible, 25% of our giving for our chosen benevolences.

Over the past few years, our Church has been hard at work building and transforming the front of the Church and starting initiatives such as Boffees, holding Exhibitions and Messy Church as new ways to integrate more with our local community.  So as part of Stewardship for 2010, it was decided to start the new decade with an umbrella 5 year theme called ‘ Rhythms of Life’  based around Ecclesiastes 3 v 1 -8.  So this chosen ‘Rhythms of Life’  theme started with a reflective topic named ‘Time for God’ . We chose this topic as Stewardship fell this year at the start of Lent – a period when we are encouraged to withdraw more into a period of quietness away from the hectic period of continual busyness to reflect, talk and listen to God.

Rev Jonathan Kerry from the Guy Chester Centre (a resource centre for attending courses and receiving training that help us create space in our lives for reflection) spoke at the morning service and led the afternoon session which showed us how best to develop an aptitude for embracing a reflective time within our routine of always ‘doing’.   There was practical help given in talking and listening to God both individually and as a group so that we might become more aware of God in our lives and in the world.

So it is our hope this year that our Stewardship theme – ‘Time for God’ will strengthen our vision and resources to sustain God’s ministry here at Bushey and Oxhey through deepening our relationship with God and seeking his guidance and help for the year and years ahead as we consolidate many of the new initiatives started in the first decade of 21st century; and also as we embark on major new works that are required to improve our disabled and access facilities as well as modernise the kitchen.  These next steps are being taken to enable us to fulfil the strategic goal for our Church in that our premises should then be better placed to attract increasing numbers of local people onto our premises for a range of different functions and activities.
